Failed Kickstarter “Light” Attempts SelfStarter Crowdfunding

Light by Moore’s Cloud launched a crowdfunding  Kickstarter campaign earlier this year but failed to reach it’s goal.  Attempting to raise $700,000Light by Moore's Cloud Failed Kickstarter Campaign they only reached slightly over $275,000 funded by over 1900 backers.

Light is described as;

The Light that turns you on

Fifty-two LEDs in two million colors add up to infinite possibilities of pattern and animation. With a powerful computer and WiFi connectivity, there’s no end to the ways the Light by Moore’s Cloud can work for you. It’s the light you’ll live your life by.

Disappointed in their shortfall the Light project will continue as a Selfstarter campaign which has already been fired up capturing investors.

The Moore’s Cloud team has tempered their goal a bit by adjusting the amount of their funding goal to $500,000.  They have already seen 300 of their previous backers migrate funding to their selfstarter campaign as of this writing.  Supporters were notified of this shift to “Plan B” in the comments section of their Kickstarter campaign.  In a post titled “Mistakes & Apologies” – the Aussie’s acknowledged they had “set the Funding Bar Too High” and they had “Priced Incorrectly”.

Moore’s went further by excoriating Kickstarter and their statement about Kickstarter not being a store.

In September Kickstarter issued a directive in the ‘Kickstarter is not a store’ blog post, which informed projects that they could not offer multiple units as rewards. Many of you asked us – repeatedly – to create reward levels for 2 or 3 or more Lights, but we had been specifically forbidden by Kickstarter from doing that. That likely slowed progress toward our funding goal.

Moore’s shift from Kickstarter to another platform follows a recent high profile campaign Lumawake which was turned away by Kickstarter only to successfully fund themselves using the Selfstarter platform.

Moore’s Cloud hopes to ship their Light product in July of 2013 currently retailing for $149.00.
