AC/DC Gives Blessing To Kickstarter For Bon Scott Memorial

Scottish Community Group DD8 Music has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a memorial to longtime AC/DC frontman Bon Scott in his hometown of Kirriemuir, and the project just received the blessing from the band.

At the 2013 Bonfest in Kirriemuir, Scotland, the funding campaign for the Bon Scott statue to be erected in Bon’s hometown has been started. By June 5th 2013, a total of 50,000 pounds must be collected in order to make this effort possible.

… DD8 Music has commissioned renowned sculptor John McKenna to produce a work of art that exemplifies Bon’s spirit and his Scottish roots. John is an incredible artist who has produced some truly magnificent work over the years. You can see some of his fantastic work at his website: http://www.a4a.com/AC/DC web site

Bon Scott died as the band was in the midst of recording a new album in 1980. That album was to be Back In Black. It would go on to be the second best-selling album ever worldwide, second only to Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Rock and roll fans around the world struggled with the tremendous weight of his loss.

Scott’s high shrieking voice was and still is one of the most recognizable in rock and roll. He has been honored all over the world, but this would perhaps be the ultimate honor for the rocker that grew up idolizing Little Richard and went on to carve his own place in rock and roll history.

The campaign ends on June 4th.
