Angels Wanted Offshore Production, Thompson Tee Went to Indiegogo Instead

Thompson Tee WhiteThompson Tee BlackThompson Tee is doing a crowdfunding project on Indiegogo.  And what is so special about this T-Shirt that Thompson Tee is attempting to produce?  Well it is a premium handcrafted product which which is quite nice and also the material blocks sweat and odor which is something unique.  But the really interesting about this Classic T – is the crowdfunding organizer wants to produce it not in Mexico, the Philippines or any other number of countries we are all used to seeing on our labels.  He wants to produce it right here in the United States.

Entrepreneur Billy Thompson wants to redefine the T-Shirt AND help revitalize American clothing manufacturing.  According to the Apparel and Footwear Association, 98% of all clothing sold in the United States are made overseas.  As stated on his crowdfunding campaign page:

We have a product that solves a global need. We’ve turned down investment offers requiring us to move production overseas. Funding is needed to expand domestic operations and product options. We believe in American manufacturing and the ethical treatment of garment workers, so we’re looking for your help to stay here!

The U.S. undershirt market is comprised of 65 million people and not a single major brand is made here. Outsourced unregulated foreign sewing contractors takes a huge toll on jobs in America, human lives abroad, and global pollution.

Mr. Thompson has rejected offers from investors with the stipulation production would move overseas and he SweatyManBadhas turned them down – turning to the power of the crowd as a viable alternative.

A recent article in NBCNews – commented on how “Made in the USA” is making a comback and Thompson is doing his part to boost the effort.

The product is really interesting.  The  concept of the sweat proof “Hyrdo Shield” technology is certain to be a hit with the gents, and maybe a more than a few ladies too.  The added value about creating jobs in the USA is a strategic bonus and one that has caught notice elsewhere.

The crowdfunding project is running now with a goal of $25,000 – ending on July 11th.  For $15 – you may be at the top of the list to have one of the interesting t-sheets.  $100 will get y0u ten.

Crowdfunding is bringing a growing number of products to the US with a large number of them produced domestically.  So perhaps manufacturing is not dead in the States?  So maybe crowdfunding is revitalizing domestic production for many items and that is a good thing for all of us.
