KREYOS: iPhone Compatible Smartwatch Fully Funded On Indiegogo

The KREYOS smartwatch is fully funded on Indiegogo with plenty of time left in the campaign, and it promises to bring hands-free smartphone use to the masses.

According to the Indiegogo campaign page, the KREYOS integrates a microphone and a three-axis gyroscope to allow the wearer to operate smartphone functions via voice command or hand gesture. The unit is programmable, so the user can make up their own gestures for different smartphone functions. Four gesture functions will come preconfigured on the KREYOS but the team says that more will be added in time. There is also a software developer kit available, and the KREYOS team says they are currently working with developers to extend the functionality of the device.

The story here is that the team says the device is compatible with iOS devices, Android devices and Windows 8 phones, the ever-rare trifecta of major smartphone software manufacturers. It’s true that there is an Apple smartwatch rumored to be on the horizon, but for those not necessarily locked into the iOS ecosystem the KREYOS may provide a welcome cross-compatible solution.

As with the famed Pebble watch, the watchface on the KREYOS is said to be customizable. 20 different faces are said to ship with the device, but more are hinted for the future.

The device can also be worn on a belt clip or a lanyard in addition to a wristband.

Core to the device is a focus on fitness, and the ANT+ and Bluetooth integration is said to allow the device to pair with a host of other fitness devices on the market. The KREYOS also has some built-in features allowing measurement of basic health indicators like steps, distance and calories burned.

The device is already fully funded with a month and a half to go in the campaign at the time of writing. The device is being presold for $100 as the cheaper early birds are sold out. As far as the likelihood of delivery, backers will be happy to know that the team says the device pictured on the campaign page is an actual prototype built from the already-completed production molds. The team is an international one that boasts experience at major manufacturers like HP, Microsoft, Acer and more.
