Kickstarter Canada Reports Update on Crowdfunding

Canada FlagKickstarter officially launched in Canada on September 9th – even though they had accepted crowdfunding projects from our friends up North for some time.  The experienced a strong launch out of the gate with dozens of campaigns which quickly grew to hundreds with thousands in the queue.  They reported the biggest project as The Peachy Printer 3D printer / scanner project which stands just under CAD $600,000 but we just reported Polar Pen zipped past CAD $ 700,000 but both are more than respectable amounts crowdfunded.  Some of the additional stats shared by the Kickstarter team are:

  • Total Pledged to Projects from Canada-Based Creators: CAD $3,266,682  ($3,152,851 USD)
  • Total Unique Backers: 47,213
  • Launched Projects: 301
  • Successfully Funded Projects: 19

An interesting metric is that total amount pledged works out to be CAD $75.61 per minute.  Not too shabby at all.

Hockey Stick Crowdfunding in CanadaNineteen projects have crowdfunded successfully.  Nearly 50,000 people have backed a Canada based creator with the following breakdown:

  • Backers in Canada: 22%
  • US backers: 44%
  • Other places: 34%

So for the first month in Canada things look pretty strong.  There was even a Hockey Stick crowdfunding campaign which closed a successful crowdfunding campaign having raised over CAD $100,000.  Kickstarter is expected to announce expansions in Australia and New Zealand soon.
