HiddenRadio Returns to Kickstarter 2 Years Later, Blows Out Goal Immediately

HiddenRadio2 Black

HiddenRadio2 Crushes Goal in Under 5 Hours.

HiddenRadio originally successfully crowdfunded on Kickstarter a bit over two years ago.  Product creators John VDN and Vitor Santa Maria have spent the past two years listening to feedback from backers and customers.  After the extended hiatus they returned to the crowdfunding platform which aided in their original success looking to crowdfund $90,000 for their HiddenRadio2.  A soft launch was planned for this past Saturday – starting at 6PM EST.  Within under 5 hours the goal was immediately hit and surpassed.  The intent was to give their original backers an advanced notice of the crowdfunding campaign for their updated version.  It appears their John___Vitor.largeprevious supporters have swarmed to support this wireless speaker as they are over $170,000 today – with more than 50 days to go in their campaign.

The original HiddenRadio raised over $938,000 on a goal of $125,000 with 5358 backers supporting this pretail campaign.  Funding closed in January 2012.  The original ship date of March of that year was not hit but eventually all backers received their speakers from the successful campaign.  The concept was to create and develop simple, powerful yet elegant bluetooth speaker.  The minimal design and intuitive approach was a big hit with backers as John and Vitor connected with potential consumers.  The early bird rewards for their first campaign placed the reward for a single speaker at $99.  The initial design did suffer some shortcomings which were shared in the backer comments.  A nearly inaccessible location for the charging cable and questionable volume levels were balanced by the sleek, modern design.

HiddenRadio2 TouchThe new version HiddenRadio2 is a completely re-designed device.  The look continues with the same clean lines from the first version but the internals have had an engineering overhaul.  The campaign page reports the designers have managed to more than double the speaker chamber enabling deeper bass.  The custom software and “proprietary neodymium dual speaker” combines to generate clear highs and strong lows.  And yes – thankfully they moved the micro usb charging location to outside of the inner cylinder.

The new design also incorporates hidden touch controls.  By simply tapping the top of the speaker y0u may pause, play or adjust the volume.  That’s pretty cool.  This version can actually effectively support phone calls – which was a shortcoming of the first version.

HiddenRadio2 Speaker PhoneThe HiddenRadio2 is bit pricier than its predecessor – but backers are getting significantly more.  The Early Bird rewards – already long gone – went for $119.  The next reward level for a single, silver speaker stands at $149.  Shipping is scheduled for June of 2014.

Joh and Vitor clearly have another hit on their hands and Kickstarter is their chosen vehicle to market and sell their hot product.
