Officially-Licensed Walking Dead Board Game Cancels Kickstarter After Securing Distribution Deal

Screen Shot 2014-04-02 at 11.35.17 AMThose that are fans of The Walking Dead TV show on AMC may not necessarily be aware of the popular graphic novel series the show is based on. That series was the inspiration for a recent board game project launched on Kickstarter, but the campaign was short lived.

That’s because the game has secured an exclusive distribution deal as the team behind the game explained in a recent campaign update

We have some great news: we have, just in the past day, agreed to an exclusive distribution deal with Diamond/Alliance. This is amazing news for the game, because it means we’re going to be able to get the game into every specialty and hobby store in the country, along with international distribution and larger stores. The game will begin to be solicited by Diamond next week. This is, quite simply, everything we had hoped for when we began to develop the game.

It’s a great accomplishment for the creators of the game and an interesting case study in crowdfunding. Many companies parlay a successful crowdfunding campaign into a later round or some other accomplishment. In this case it didn’t even take that. Crowdfunding is most certainly a marketing exercise.
