LeVar Burton Reflects on Reading Rainbow Crowdfunding Success (Video)

Just a few weeks following the closing of his “Reading Rainbow” campaign on Kickstarter, former host of the PBS children’s series LeVar Burton discusses his initial reaction to the project’s launch and success on the crowdfunding platform.

Levar BurtonOver 105,000 backers pledges a total of $5.4 million dollars to bring the series back to life as a web-based version for every child, everywhere to enjoy. The campaign broke the record for most backers for a single project, beating out other well-known projects including “Veronica Mars,” Double Fine game, Torment game, and Project Eternity game.

During an interview for the upcoming documentary “Kickstarted,” Burton stated, “With hard, hard work by everybody in this office. We launched and then, we sweated, and then it went crazy. I mean it went nuts. Million dollars on the first day and then it just got better. Finally, we did it with a record for most backers ever.”

In regards to the experience, Burton noted, “The Biggest Lesson here has been if you believe in anything and you’re not achieving the kind of traction you’re going for. Just keep going.”
