Bactest is Shortlisted for SME of the Year While Raising Capital on SyndicateRoom

Annie BrookingBactest is equity crowdfunding on SyndicateRoom and they have easily hit their initial goal.  The company originally set out to raise £450,000 but quickly rocketed past that amount.  The funding round stands today overfunded £850,000– nearing double of their intended amount with two days remaining in their campaign.  Bactest has benefited by the support of some significant Angel participation and fund support.  Graeme Porteous of London Business Angels is a board member.  More recent investors include the Low Carbon Innovation Fund and Angel CoFund.  For the crowdfunding round the offer boasts 66 investors today.

Bactest logoAnd what does Bactest d0 that garners such broad support? The company is changing the way contamination testing is done.  No glitzy consumer facing product here – just one that makes sense and makes money as it disrupts a process of testing for bacteria that is 70 years old.

Speedy Breedy is their leading product.  The device is a portable contamination unit that eliminates costly and potentially dangerous delays for testing.  Speedy Breedy can generate accurate results in as little as 3 hours.  The product has only been on the market for a few months and has generated revenue of approximately £68,000 but the interest is deep enough – and the market is global – to create a pre-money valuation of over £4.8 million.

The company is already developing their second product Shepherd, a product that is described as “reducing carbon emissions at water treatment plants”.

Bactest has won a good list of awards for their products including;SyndicateRoom Logo New

  • Open Innovation Forum for Food and Drink
  • Food & Dring Matters recognized Speedy Breedy for commitment to Excellence
  • The BlueTech Research Innovation Award
  • Innovation Award at the Food and Beverage Association Awards

Now the company has been shortlisted for the SME of the Year Award at the Festival of Business.  The company was recently featured in the Telegraph accompanied by a video.

Professor Annie Brooking, CEO and founder of Backtest was quoted in the daily publication;

“During my career I have brought 17 product lines to market and Speedy Breedy is the most challenging.”

If you are interested in investing you better hurry.
