Indiegogo Crowdfunding Record Breakers for 2014

Indiegogo Record Breakers 2014Global crowdfunding platform Indiegogo has engaged in a bit of reflection for 2014 having publishes a series of posts on their site reviewing accomplishments for the past year. Indiegogo had more than a few highly successful campaigns for 2014 and produced several record breaking projects.

Included on the list for 2014 are the following campaigns:

Most Fully Funded Campaign Ever:  An Hour of Code raised the most money ever topping $5 million with the help of some big name backers including FaceBook founder Mark Zuckerberg & his wife Priscilla Chan.  The idea is to fund teaching 100 million students around the world to learn to write some code.  No potato salad here, the project will do some good.

Most Funded Film: Rooster Teeth’s Lazer Team rocketed to crowdfunding fame by raising over $2.48 million.  If you are of a certain generation you may have never heard of Rooster Teeth but if you are a Millennial you know all about this cool “Red vs. Blue” internet series.  Following the successful campaign, Fullscreen acquired the franchise for an undisclosed but certainly a solid exit to grow the product and brand.Rooster Teeth

Most Contributors of All Time: Solar Roadways captured the imagination of thousands with its unique concept of creating highways that double as solar power plants. The creative project even caught the eye of the White House as the creators were invited to the 2014 White House Maker Faire.  Backers numbered 48,475 contributing over $2.2 million.

Most Funded Film in UK: Simon’s Cat in Off to the Vet raised over £310,000 becoming the most funded film in the UK. The animated YouTube series boasts 3 million subscribers so you know where the support came from. The funding will be used to create their first ever full color 11 minute film.

Cat Ears Headphones 1Most Funded Technology Campaign Ever: Axent Wear Cat Ear Headphones is probably one of my personal favorite rewards based crowdfunding campaigns. The improbably designed Cat Ear ‘Phones are a definitive fashion statement that puts ordinary Beats to shame. Two UC Berkeley grads launched the campaign and raised an astounding $2.9 million.  Gotta love it.
