Brief: Baltimore’s Non-Profit Organization Section1 Launches Series A Funding Round.

Earlier this week, Baltimore non-profit organization, Section1, opened its new Series A funding round in hopes of revitalize a 3.5-acre abandon site in the city’s art scene under Jones Falls Expressway ready for public view.

Section1 1The organization is dedicated to transforming, vacant, underutilized, or derelict sites into vibrant creative spaces designated for the use of urban. It is planning to develop the abandon site into a park that features over 70,000 sqft. of street art, an 18,000 sqft. skate park, and three live performance venues.

According to Technical.ly, Section1 kicked off an online silent auction during a launch party. Nearly 20 artists, which included TT the Artist, Michael Owen, MICA professor Gary Kachadourian, were commissioned to create their version of the $100 bill.

Section1 3Section1 founder, Richard Best, announced at the launch party:

“In purchasing a piece of art, you get to help build this amazing park.”

Best revealed that he is currently in the process of finalizing the lease with the Maryland Transportation Authority and is aiming to debut the part during ArtScape this July.
