SeedInvest Launches in Georgia, Continues Regional Expansion Strategy

Equity crowdfunding platform SeedInvest opened up operations in Atlanta, Georgia last week and organized a launch party to introduce their investment platform to the local crowd. This is a continuation of their strategy to create local hubs in key markets across the United States by hiring a local individual to assist with deal flow and marketing.  SeedInvest Georgia has hired  Sapna Patel as Managing Director for the operation.

SeedInvest believes the local ecosystem for ATL startups has seen “exponential growth” in recent years – and they want to be there to assist in raising capital; easily accessible to both investors and SMEs. Asked about the new operation, Sapna explained;

“Not only will the launch of our new Georgia presence bring a new source of fundraising to the southeast startup community but it will also allow investors to get access to early stage technology companies from across the nation.”

Kiran Lingam, General Counsel for SeedInvest and a well known advocate for investment crowdfunding, explained that technical talent flowing from Georgia Tech, along with the shortage of capital and reasonable cost of living, made Atlanta an ideal location for SeedInvest to leverage its services.  Lingam also stated that Georgia based companies may receive a lower valuation in contrast to hotspots like NYC and Silicon Valley creating an opportunity for early stage investors.  Lingam, a graduate from the University of Georgia Law School, knows the area well.Kiran Lingam

“Our launch in Georgia is part of our overall strategy to focus on building local communities in key markets around the country.  Georgia is our now our sixth market (after New York, Chicago, Detroit, LA, and Texas).  We intend to continue to build on the success in these markets by ramping up to 10 regions in 2015,” said Kiran.

Kiran also shared they were looking to hire as well. (Outside of NYC they are looking for hire in Boston, DC, Miami, Seattle, Austin and Boulder)

SeedInvest is known for offering only highly vetted investment opportunities thus establishing a higher degree of trust between investor and issuer at the outset of an offer.  Based in NYC, SeedInvest raised $4.15 million in mid-2014 during a Series A self-crowdfunding round.  Today SeedInvest is doing Reg D placements, both private and public offers.  The platform may take advantage of the new Reg A+ and retail crowdfunding at some point in the future (contingent upon final rules).
