Fans of Former Black Flag & Misfit Member Dez Cadena Launch GoFundMe Campaign Following Cancer Diagnosis

Just a few months after the devastating announcement of Dez Cadena being diagnosed with throat cancer, a group of the rocker’s devoted fans launched a crowdfunding campaign on GoFundMe to help pay for his health expenses.

The former Black Flag and Misfit member previously wrote:

Dez Cadena 2“Listen Folks, a lot of people have been inquiring about my well being, well I have been going thru some health problems, but I have been taking care of this situation. About 2 weeks ago the Doc removed a Malignant Neoplasm from my larynyx. It was in early stage one,so this is a good sign. I am in good positive spirits and can actually speak well. I couldn’t for months.
“Even while I was on tour and trying to sing.It was hard.In the middle of the tour Jerry finally said ‘go to the Doctor !’ Which I was Planning to do as soon as tour was over. Anyway I feel better but I still have some medical procedures to endure.I know a lot of folks have been wondering. I hope this clears up a few things for people. I can still Play Guitars ,but at the moment I can’t sing for my own band,or The Misfits or Queen, for that matter. Here’s some advice, if you want to go thru all this type of medical fun, smoke em if you got em. Please no sympathy [messages],that’s not Punk Rock.”

The campaigns description reads:

“Dez Cadena, beloved member of Black Flag, Misfits, DC3, Vida, Ella & The Blacks, Redd Kross, and Flag, is battling throat cancer.

Dez Cadena 3“Dez has just finished debilitating radiation treatments, and is confident he will return to active performance again within a year.  So Dez has had to take a long break from touring and recording and he had no other income to pay for the quite expensive treatments and doctor’s bills.

“We ask you today to donate funds to help Dez’s cause, as this friendly man has given so much to the music community, and he is literally a living punk rock legend, having played on some of the classic records of the genre, and remains one of the most beloved members of the scene.

Riot Fest And Carnival 2013 - Day 2“We ask you to please consider donating anything you can to help see Dez through the next year, so he can resume his proper place on the stages and records of our future. Thank you for assisting us in helping this very kind man in his time of need.”

The campaign is currently seeking $35,000 to help Dez with the bills. The fans are expecting him to return to the stage as early as next year.
