Soholoft Founder and Crowdfund Advocate Participates in All Russia Science Festival

October 12, 2012 – Today in Moscow former Russian President and current Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev will open the 7th All Russia Science Festival, appearing at the grand opening gala.

 

The Science Festival is organized by Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the Moscow Government and the Lomonosov Moscow State University (which also hosts the event).  A celebration of science which allows members of the public to meet with important scientific figures, the festival prides itself on being accessible to all and has highly participatory sessions.  The All Russia Science Festival seeks to popularize science, develop understanding of scientific knowledge and stimulate young people to become interested in research and development. This year 110 universities and 1 Million visitors from all over the world are expected to attend this event.

 

In his comments in support of the Science Festival  Dmitry Medvedev said of scientists, “They create the possibility for making essential changes, for upgrading our country, and for achieving national benefits in economic competition, in the field of safety, and in the creation of cultural achievements.”

 

Among the key scientific figures to present during this festival are two Nobel laureates in Physics,  Claude Cohen-Tannoudji 1997 and George Smoot 2006. “I am surprised about the enthusiasm in Moscow around this event,” said David Drake.  “I did not realize how big this is.  I even have Claude Cohen-Tannoudji and George Smoot staying next door to me.”

presentation on crowd funding for equity at an international conference as part of the All Russia Science Festival. Mr Drake’s presentation, “Crowdfunding as an Alternative Financial Support of University Innovation”, at Green Enterprising and University Innovation for a Sustainable Future will be the first time anyone has presented on this topic in Eastern Europe.

 

The Green Enterprising and University Innovation for a Sustainable Future conference will be held at Lomonosov Moscow State University on October 13-14 .  The conference has been organised by Stockholm University, Moscow State University and Bauman Technical University and supported by the Swedish Institute.  In attendance will be participants from 27 eastern European universities.
