Update: 10.24.12 as of Today they have raised over $38,000.00 towards their $100,000.00 goal.
Unless you have disavowed news you have certainly heard about this tragic story of the young Pakistani girl who was viciously attacked and shot by Taliban thugs. Malala Yousufzai, a heroic 14-year-old activist and blogger from SWAT Valley, Pakistan was shot in the head on her way back from school on October 9th of this year. We are shocked at the thought of this poor girl and what she is enduring – along with the struggles of her family. Fortunately she survived but has been flown to the UK for medical care.
Hiraa Khan, a former Googler and first generation Pakistani – American has launched a campaign to help pay for Malala’s, and her family’s expenses – which should prove to be substantial.
Hiraa is currently a second year Masters in Public Policy candidate at University of California, Berkeley’s Goldman School of Public Policy. We are certain to hear more about Hiraa in the future as she is destined to do great things. Shiz Shahid, equally involved, is working for the consulting firm McKinsey and is a family friend of Malala.
There are several campaigns on Indiegogo which have been created to benefit Malala and her family but this one seems to be the one making the most headway. As of this writing the project was over a third of the way to their $25,000.00 goal.
