Startup Canada has launched a “crowd funding” campaign to raise $100,000 to start a web portal that will connect entrepreneurs across Canada with resources they need to make their businesses successful.
The campaign was to be announced Tuesday at a kickoff event at the Accelerator Centre in Waterloo.
Startup Canada, a non-profit organization that is working on a national entrepreneurship strategy, is using Indiegogo, a crowd funding web service, to raise the money.
Instead of trying to raise money through one big sponsor, crowd funding appeals to the masses “to give a little bit to achieve the same result,” said Startup Canada co-founder Victoria Lennox. “If everybody gives $10 or $25, we’ll get to our goal very quickly.”
