Local rock quintet Robert Jon & the Wreck, currently competing in the OC Music Awards Showcase Seriesfor the title of best live band, has started a crowdfunding campaign for its next album via Kapipal.
Hundreds of thousands of artists lately have turned to crowd-funding sites like Kickstarter, Gofundme or Indiegogo looking to get their respective communities and fans involved in coming up with cash to continue to create and record music.
But many acts offer hardly any incentive to donate other than the hope of a free download or physical copy once the album is completed. RJ&TW have taken it a step further by devising a dozen donation prizes, ranging from the common digital download of the finished product for $6 to things few bands will brave, such as keys player Steve Maggiora agreeing to tattoo your name on himself for a $10,000 gift.
The choices in between are equally interesting, as the band pulled in several other local artists – rock band Jeramiah Red, singer-songwriter Micah Brown, bluesman and Creme Tangerine owner Parker Macy, and songstress Annie McQueen – to perform odd tasks for various contributions.
