We Can Be Heroes Now Over $130,000 on Indiegogo

We Can Be HeroesWith an original goal of $50,000, the We Can Be Heroes crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo has now far surpassed their “stretch” goal of $100,000 besting $130,000.  There are still seven days left in the campaign.

The top reward was a private screening of the forthcoming film “Man of Steel” delivered to your home town for one backer and 100 of their friends.  The donation was $15,000.

This was DC Entertainments first ever crowdfunding attempt which was launched in April.  The challenge was to raise funds for the hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa:

This crisis is unlike any other in terms of displacement, starvation, and death of the population. More than 8 million people in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia are in need of critical assistance. Hundreds of thousands have fled to refugee camps. The situation is so critical that in July 2011, the United Nations officially declared famine for the first time in 21 years.

Since then, progress has been made. Humanitarian aid organizations are on the ground working to help. And in February 2012, the UN lifted the famine in the region.

But the crisis isn’t over. Families there still need help—a lot of help. This is a fight that can be won. But nobody can do it alone. Now it’s your turn to join your heroes—and be one yourself.

Man of Steel Private ScreeningAll funds raised go to support the charities of Save the Children, International Rescue Committee and Mercy Corps.
