Chatting with Kate Drane, it turns out she was never entirely comfortable as a public speaker, but now that her job includes telling a room full of passionate, innovative people about the best ways to crowdfund your passion to success, Kate can’t get a mic in her hand fast enough.
And we’re glad she did; last night’s IDEA MAKERS: An evening with Indiegogo drew a packed house of some of Vancouver’s best and brightest brains across a wide variety of industries, from designers-turned-restaurateurs Clinton McDougall and Dane Brown (Bestie), to local musician David Vertesi (Hey Ocean!), to the facilitator of new business Devon MacKenzie (The Chinatown Experiment), to documentary film maker Hilary Henegar (Fractured Land), we couldn’t believe the calibre of speakers and panelists who so willingly gave of their time, let alone our esteemed guests. The evening was truly an embodiment of the spirit of crowdfunding, as Kate would say, “multiplying the power of your community, and your community’s community, to make dreams happen”.
