Gawker “Crackstarter” Indiegogo Campaign is Uncertain

Gawker Crackstarter CampaignIn a post by Gawker Journo John Cook, Gawker acknowledged some challenges in the Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign in obtaining the alleged video of the Toronto Mayor smoking crack.

Recognizing that working with individuals who deal, sell or smoke crack are not necessarily the most reputable types – Cook notified readers they have been unable to contact the owners of the aforementioned video of late.

We were initially made aware of the video by a tipster, who connected us with the owner of the video after we traveled to Toronto. We’ve been in relatively constant communication with the tipster since then. But he has told us that hasn’t been able to make contact with the owner of the video in recent days.

John Cook Gawker JournoThe crowdfunding campaign or “Crackstarter” has reached a goal of over $184,000.00 with 18 hours left in the campaing. Their target is to raise $200,000 to purchase the rumored video.

If Gawker is not able to purchase ownership of the alleged video all funds will be donated to a Canadian charity that addresses substance abuse issues.

The possibility of a video capturing an elected official of Ford’s stature has titillated the main stream media. Ford has continued to deny the existence of any type of media showing him in such a compromising situation.

The story brings back the memories of past Washington DC Mayor – Marion  Berry – who was caught on tape by the FBI smoking crack.  His mayorship ended up with a stint in a Federal Prison.
