Buried in the list of rewards for DC Entertainment’s “We Can Be Heroes” is a pretty incredible available perk: having Jim Lee come to your house to create an original piece of artwork right on your wall.
Not only are we more dedicated than ever to the fight against the hunger crisis, we’re also celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Man of Steel. And what could be a more honorable tribute than teaming up with our legions of fans to make one big difference for the men, women and children who need our help? Everything and anything you do will help. Just pick your perk, give today and you’ll help make a true difference.
JIm Lee is a famous comic book artist with a rich history of involvement in the industry. He is perhaps best known for helping to launch the X-Men comic series, the first issue of which is the bestselling comic book of all time. According to Wikipedia that single issue sold over 8 million copies, largely driven by a series of alternate covers. Comic book collectors snatched up multiple copies of the issue in order to secure the complete series of covers.
Now for $25,000 Lee is promising to create original art in one lucky backer’s home. Since the campaign is a verified nonprofit campaign on Indiegogo, the (sizable) contribution carries a tax-deductible amount of $14,000 making this art you can actually write off. All proceeds for the campaign will be split among three nonprofit partners: International Rescue Committee, Mercy Corps and Save the Children, all of which work to fight hunger in the Horn of Africa.
The campaign has raised over $55,000 at the time of writing.
