“She Started It” To Focus On Female Entrepreneurship In Tech

A crowdfunding campaign currently funding on Indiegogo is seeking $10,000 to create a documentary about female entrepreneurs in technology.

The project was created by Nora Poggi and Insiyah Saeed, two San Francisco-based journalists who have first-hand experience covering some high-growth companies with females at the helm. They want to bring some of these stories to light in an effort to encourage other females to take the plunge and become great entrepreneurs.

For girls out there wondering what major or career path to take, this will give you a glimpse into a different life, full of incredible highs and lows. We have all wondered more than once, if we had “what it takes”; these women will tell you what made them take the leap and how to sustain a high growth career.

Some of the entrepreneurs featured in the short documentary are as follows:

Thuy Truong, Vietnamese expat and founder of GreenGar, a mobile app development firm. She worked with the incubator 500startups.

Madison Maxey, Thiel fellow and fashion-designer-turned-programmer who was named “Female Founder to Watch” by Women 2.0.

Stacey Ferreira, co-founder of MySocialCloud, a platform that allows users to store usernames and passwords for logging into sites.

Principle photography started just a week ago and the total budget for the film is listed at $30,000. The team is seeking $10,000 through Indiegogo and will also seek grants in the US and Europe. The two journalists also plan to launch an accompanying YouTube channel.

You can find out more about the project at the She Started It Tumblr page or on Indiegogo.
