Crowdfunding On Indiegogo: The First Decent Electric Coffee Maker?

Drip coffee makers usually make coffee that is either too bitter or too acidic, but they’re easy to clean. French presses and the Aeropress make great coffee, but they’re a pain to clean. Single-serving brewers… can you even call that coffee?

Imagine my excitement to see this on Indiegogo: a digital coffee brewer that aims to right the wrongs of traditional dip brewers and replicate the quality of the french press.

Backers should (as always) do their own due diligence, but on the surface this looks to be a simple pretail play for an already-made product. Inventor Bruce Burrows and the icoffee made it to the International Home & Housewares Show 2013 in Chicago, where the following demo was filmed:

The brewer is available on Indiegogo for a $122 pledge. The campaign page suggests that the retail price will be around $169, so backing the campaign can offer some significant cost savings. Delivery is expected for as early as sometime next month.

Having said all of that, this campaign is going to need some PR help to reach a $100,000 goal in the next month. It is a fixed funding campaign, so if that goal isn’t reached backers will get their money back.
