In a partnership crowdfunding campaign SunGod Sunglasses has teamed with Sightsavers, a charity working to address blindness in developing countries, and has successfully crowdfunded their goal on Indiegogo. With 6 days remaining the campaign stands over £65,000 raised – long ago passing their two stretch goals of £16k and £25k.
The charitable portion of the campaign allowed for every pair of Sunglasses sold the organizers will hep restore the vision of one person in a developing country. The campaign page shares the statistics that 285 million people live with visual impairment – the majority in the developing world. The majority can be prevented or cured with treatment.
“Due to the incredible support we have received for our campaign so far, we are in a position where we can make a significant difference to those suffering from visual impairment and blindness,” says Ali Watkiss, cofounder of SunGod. “That’s why, for every pair of SunGod sunglasses we sell, we will help restore the vision of one person in a developing country.”
The SunGod approach takes a page out of the Warby Parker playbook by cutting out the middle man. Recognizing that most quality sunglasses suffer from incredible markups the founders of SunGod want to provide high a quality product at a reasonable price. A lifetime guarantee is included if they are broken – no guarantee if you happen to leave them at your local coffee shop though.
So if you are in need of a new pair of sunglasses this may be the crowdfunding campaign for you. Customizable too. Planned shipping – both the UK and US – is September 2013.
