Security / Home Automation Device Piper Leaps Past Crowdfunding Goal

PiperCrowdfunding on Indiegogo, “Piper” Security Device and Home Automation application has flown past their initial $100,000 objective.  With over two weeks remaining in the campaign the tally stands at over $117,000 from almost 500 backers.  Piper, coming from Ottawa based Blacksumac, is the latest entrant in the internet connected home security realm which has recently seen several successfully crowdfunded products.  Piper experienced a robust pretail round of funding as “Early Bird Backers” could pre-order the product at an entry level of $189.00.  This level quickly sold out.  Organizers have now set stretch goals with new funding targets.

“We are extremely thankful to the early supporters who have pre-ordered Pipers via contributions to our Indiegogo campaign,” said Russell Ure, CEO of Blacksumac. “The early popularity of our product serves as a strong validation that Piper will address and solve a problem for the many potential users of the product. Now that we’ve reached our Indiegogo goal we are shifting into manufacturing the units that have been pre-ordered.”

Blacksumac leaders PiperThe Piper comes equipped with a plethora of features which you would expect in a home security product.  Video (including panoramic) , motion sensors, microphones, temperature / humidity, siren – of course this is all available to monitor and manage via your iPhone or Android mobile.  Recognizing the growing importance of the “Internet of Things” Piper steps up the game a bit and integrates with Z-Wave home automation.  By incorporating a Z-Wave add on accessory users may control lights, heating / cooling – you name it.

The device has been testing prototypes since April of this year so they are nearly ready for full production.  The crowdfunding campaign has now allowed them to go to full production with initial delivery expected in November 2013.

With market validation in hand you can expect Piper to be widely available in 2014.  If you want one sooner – well check out their crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.
