‘We The Kings’ Turns To Indiegogo Over Indie Labels For 4th Album

Bands with a solid fan base are increasingly turning away from record labels and using crowdfunding to self-fund studio albums and tours. The latest incarnation of this trend comes from Florida-based rock band We The Kings, who have already raised over $67,000 in just two days on Indiegogo.

So, how is this band garnering this much money in short order via crowdfunding? The answer here lies in the rewards. There are 12 reward options for backers, the least of which is a $15 copy of their upcoming album.

One backer has ponied up $4,999 for a chance to lay a track down for the new album. The backer will be credited on the CD and will also have a half-day studio session working on his or her music with lead singer Travis Clark.

For $12,000 one band could secure a week on the road opening for We The Kings. Thus far nobody has taken advantage.

Other rewards include a signed limited edition gold vinyl, an opportunity to hang out on the band’s tour bus and the option to buy a lifetime spot on the band’s guest list for any show.

It’s a pretty remarkable gesture from the band to their fans and goes a long way in showing why crowdfunding is more about the crowd. This band has almost doubled their goal in 48 short hours, and the reward strategy is largely responsible.

We The Kings have an impressive resume of platinum & Top 40 hits. They also won awards for their interactive video for the song “Say You Like Me,” which plays more as a video game than a video.

The crowd definitely likes We The Kings.
