So why should you be stuck with the same pair of glasses for years? Or feel compelled to purchase multiple frames along with expensive prescription lenses. If you must wear glasses it is nice to be able to accessorize depending on the occasion or mood – just like you do now with any other type of apparel. This is what Frameri has set out to address. The company makes boutique quality frames which allow one set of lens to fit into many different frames and they have launched a pretail crowdfunding campaign to support their objective.
Founders Konrad Billetz, Kevin Habich, Tech Lichtenberger and Caelan Urquhart have each worn glasses all of their lives so they understand the challenge well.
“As your average twenty-somethings, we got tired of having to buy a new pair of glasses every time we wanted our eyewear to match what we were wearing. Even at a hundred-dollar price-point, having multiple pairs of glasses adds up, and the best way around that problem is to use only one pair of lenses between multiple frames” , explained CEO Billetz.
Prior to Frameri, most manufacturers were selling the same thing: an unchanging and outdated product. Out with the old and in with the new. Unlike other brand’s glasses, Frameri glasses are designed with a unique hard polymer coating around the lenses that was specifically developed to allow for thousands of effortless lens exchanges so that consumers can easily change frames whenever they want. Simply swap your lenses in and popping your lenses out of whatever frame you want to wear that day. The company also offers prescription sun lenses in the same styles as their clear lenses so users may easily transforms their frames into sunglasses by popping their sun lenses into their frames.
After ten months of preparation – including partnerships with professional designers and an arrangement with Italian frame suppliers, Frameri is ready to go – and they are crowdfunding on Indiegogo. The campaign set a goal of raising $30,000 and they have breezed past that hurdle. With over $42,000 raised and over two weeks to go – Frameri has established the interest in their product. They now have a new stretch goal in the sites of raising $75,000.
As you would expect the rewards allow a backer a range of options to purchase the frames plus lenses. The Featured Perk is for $200 where the backer gets to pick three frames plus one set of prescription lenses.
