Brian Aitken Crowdfunding Campaign Closes Over $40,000, Intends to Petition Supreme Court

Brian Aitken Thank YouBrian Aitken, a convicted gun offender who did nothing wrong,  has been crowdfunding on Indiegogo.  His campaign was to publish a book about his harrowing odyssey and – if he surpassed $40,000 – to petition the Supreme Court to hear his second amendment case.

The story has captured wide media attention as the circumstances regarding his arrest, conviction and draconian punishment were widely acknowledged as a transgression of justice.  The conviction took place in the State of New Jersey where Governor Christie saw fit to pardon Aitken after serving 4 months of a 7 year sentence.

In an update on his crowdfunding campaign Aitken indicated he was 99% certain he would be able to take his case to the highest court in the land;

I’m 99% sure if I can reach $40,000 total I’ll have all of the resources I need not only to publish the book, petition SCOTUS, fulfill Indiegogo promises, and have various bans on my rights lifted… but I’ll also be able to have some sort of parenting plan by Christmas.

Aitken has been unable to see his young son in years due to his conviction and is using part of the funds to be able to get custody back.  He hopes to be able to do this by Christmas.

His campaign was supported 1090 backers.  The final tally raised was $40,544.  While the crowdfunding may be over Aitken’s story will continue for quite some time to come.
