UK Fintech SumUp, a Digital Payments Service Provider, Partners Google to Make it Easier for Clients to Purchase Gift Cards

UK-based Fintech SumUp, a payments service provider, has teamed up with Google in order to enable merchants using Google My Business to add support links to gift cards to their business profile on Google.

This latest move aims to support SMBs during COVID-19 and also after the pandemic has passed, according to a release shared with Crowdfund Insider.

The release noted:

“The new solution will allow customers and supporters to discover and purchase gift cards via SumUp when they search for their favorite local businesses on Google in the UK, the US, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Austria, and Switzerland. SumUp merchants will also be highlighted for a limited time via ‘support local businesses nearby’ banners on Google Maps in select countries.”

SumUp, which claims it serves 2 million merchants globally, said that businesses now have more options that will allow them to promote their services and special offers. The Fintech firm aims to help SMEs with speeding up their economic recovery as companies have been struggling to maintain operations during these challenging times.

Marcel Schneider, CCO at SumUp, said that his company is looking forward to working with Google as both companies continue to build support systems for SMBs while help them to keep trading during the Coronavirus crisis.

Last month, SumUp launched various payment tools to help businesses conduct operations while observing social distancing measures due to COVID-19.

SumUp’s solution is part of the Fintech firm’s efforts to enter the online or digital retail sector, a move that’s part of an initiative that aims to offer a complete toolkit for merchants.

In March 2020, SumUp announced that it would waive the fees charged on its mobile payments platform, allowing retailers to settle transactions remotely through their devices by sharing a link through WhatsApp, SMS messaging, or email.

SumUp has also confirmed that it was introducing an invoicing service for current SumUp clients. The new service will allow vendors to send and maintain an electronic record of company invoices.
