Waves launches Airdrop based on 2018 World Cup Outcomes

Will Germany reign supreme in the World Cup once again? Even after their humiliating defeat by Mexico? That’s my bet. What’s yours? Well if you have a strong opinion on the outcome of the World Cup 2018, you may have a chance to earn some free tokens from a promotional effort by Waves.

Blockchain platform Waves has announced an airdrop distribution of “football tokens” (or soccer tokens in the US) for its users. Waves says it will distribute 150,000 cryptocurrency tokens to the wallets of its users free of charge. The promotion is ongoing now. Of course, Waves is asking something from you. You must first create a wallet on their platform and then like them on Facebook (while sharing the Airdrop announcement).

After the World Cup finishes, Waves says it will buy back the Football / Soccer Tokens according to the pre-announced price (in BTC) of the winning team.

Waves explains that each user participating in the airdrop will receive one universal token that they can use to invest in their favored team and will be able to trade their tokens based on which teams they predict will win each game as the most successful team’s token has the most value.

Reading the Waves terms and conditions, it appears there will be a 2nd Airdrop following the first. Is this a security and how will you be taxed (depending on your jurisdiction)? That’s up to you to figure out. You can read all about it here.
