Digital Payments Provider Checkout.com Partners with Portugal’s Pingo Doce

Checkout.com, a global digital payments provider, announced a partnership with Pingo Doce, the Portuguese multinational food retail group, to support its online store. The partnership marks a key milestone in Pingo Doce’s digital transformation, allowing the group to provide a so-called high performing online shopping and payments experience to customers in Portugal.

With this initiative for its online business, the group is bringing its in-store value and convenience “to digital channels, starting with ready-made food orders and expanding to a full online store.”

A central component of the partnership is Checkout.com’s Intelligent Acceptance technology, which “applies machine learning, AI and data science to optimize transaction flows, reduce friction, and increase conversion across Pingo Doce payment channels.”

This data-driven optimization is key to ensuring “a reliable checkout experience for customers, particularly during high-volume shopping periods.”

The partnership includes capabilities such as network tokenization, Fraud Detection Pro, and support for MBWay, Cards, and Wallets, providing Pingo Doce with the tools “to serve the Portuguese market with the payment methods customers trust.”

Checkout.com was selected for its digital performance focus and “deep local payments expertise – qualities that proved pivotal in supporting Pingo Doce eCommerce debut.”

David Silva, Senior Product Manager at Pingo Doce said that as they continue to accelerate their digital strategy, “launching their online store is a key milestone.”

Working cooperatively with Checkout.com allows us to offer their  customers a streamlined payment experience, while “giving them the agility and performance we need to scale. Their local expertise and advanced payment capabilities make them a natural partner in this journey.”

This engagement underscores Checkout.com’s presence in Southern Europe’s digital economy.

By enabling digital payments for Pingo Doce’s eCommerce operations, Checkout.com is allowing the retailer to unlock “revenue streams and enhance customer loyalty through better digital service delivery.”

Ashley Paulus, Head of Growth UK & Europe, at Checkout.com, said that they are pleased to support Pingo Doce as they bring their retail experience online.

Their partnership is grounded in a commitment to performance, product development, and local expertise.

By applying AI-driven tools such as Intelligent Acceptance, they are helping Pingo Doce maximize conversion and “deliver a smarter, more resilient payments experience for their customers.”

They look forward to strengthening their ongoing “collaboration as they expand their digital footprint in Portugal and beyond.”
