On Indiegogo: “Snagger Tool” Is A Firefighter’s Swiss Army Knife, Crowd Can Donate One To A Fire Department

The Snagger Tool is currently crowdfunding on Indiegogo, and although project creator and inventor Luke Geleynse has a long way to go if he hopes to hit his goal of $20,000, the tool looks really interesting and useful. Of course, Luke should know; he is a firefighter in Ontario.

The initial prototype was developed in 2007 based on the need to develop a safer way to handle ‘charged’ hose, and since then the design has been refined and is now being crafted out of non-conductive extruded aluminum. Luke explains his inspiration: “Our goal was simple, as part of a busy volunteer Fire Department, we wanted to equip our firefighters with tools that would help them do their jobs more efficiently, and safely.”

What makes the Snagger Tool valuable is its ability to handle a variety of tasks, from handling hoses on ladders to breaking tempered glass, while being lightweight and readily available in a pocket at all times. In doing so, the firefighter can be prepared for multiple challenges that arise while lowering workplace injuries.

snaggertoolAccording to the campaign page, 39% of all firefighter injuries happen as a result of handling a firehose. The Snagger Tool hopes to minimize that impact greatly.

The Snagger Tool is said to have found success within several departments, and now Geleynse has turned his attention to bringing the Snagger Tool to a wider market. $85 in US money from a contributor will put a Snagger Tool in one fire department.

Geleynse is inviting firefighters that want a Snagger Tool to email him at snaggertools@gmail.com or tweet @SnaggerTools for consideration.

The flexible funding campaign will end on December 16th, 2013.
