Regtech Entrust Partners With IBM to Help Firms Make Transition Toward Quantum Safe Security

Entrust has joined forces with IBM (NYSE: IBM) to equip businesses with advanced tools for strengthening their cryptographic defenses and smoothly shifting to quantum-resistant security measures. Announced recently this past month, the partnership combines IBM Consulting’s specialized knowledge in quantum-safe overhauls with Entrust’s proven strengths in public key infrastructure (PKI), cryptographic management, and hardware security modules.

Targeted primarily at financial institutions, government agencies, and large enterprises, the initiative aims to help organizations seize command over their scattered encryption assets while building a structured path forward.

Quantum computing has evolved from a theoretical possibility into a pressing strategic priority for corporate boards.

Advances in the technology, coupled with mounting global regulatory demands, mean that sensitive data protected by today’s encryption could soon be vulnerable.

Compounding the urgency, malicious actors are already collecting encrypted information today with the intent to decrypt it once sufficiently powerful quantum systems emerge—a practice known as “harvest now, decrypt later.” Against this backdrop, many companies still grapple with fragmented cryptographic environments.

Certificates, keys, and secrets often reside across outdated legacy systems, cloud platforms, and automated development pipelines, each governed by differing rules.

Isolated audits or standalone tools fall short in addressing these complexities, leaving gaps that heighten operational vulnerabilities and compliance risks.

To tackle these challenges head-on, the two companies have developed an integrated offering centered on the Entrust Cryptographic Security Platform (CSP).

This platform functions as a centralized command center, providing nonstop monitoring and insight into certificates, encryption keys, secrets, algorithms, and trust anchors throughout an organization’s entire infrastructure.

It maps potential exposures against critical business operations, data retention periods, and regulatory requirements, enabling informed decision-making.

Complementing this is IBM Consulting’s Quantum Safe Transformation Services, which includes a specialized migration orchestrator.

This tool translates assessment findings into a tailored, priority-driven roadmap that aligns cryptographic upgrades with broader compliance goals and day-to-day business needs.

The solution extends beyond initial discovery to deliver sustained oversight. It supports phased implementation of changes, automates routine certificate and key lifecycles, enforces uniform policies, and facilitates both hybrid and fully post-quantum cryptography adoption.

By establishing repeatable governance processes, the partnership helps minimize service disruptions, close audit deficiencies, and gradually eliminate accumulated cryptographic weaknesses—often referred to as “crypto debt.”

The result is enhanced agility, allowing firms to adapt swiftly to emerging standards while maintaining robust protection.

Dinesh Nagarajan, Executive Partner and Global Service Line Leader for Quantum-Safe and Data Security at IBM Consulting, emphasized the need for immediate action.

He noted that regulatory requirements and quantum progress no longer permit delays in preparation, highlighting how the alliance delivers practical governance, resilience, and scalability for long-term readiness.

Mike Baxter, Chief Technology and Product Officer at Entrust, echoed this sentiment.

He described the collaboration as enabling organizations to regain cryptographic control across applications, cloud environments, identities, and infrastructure.

With Entrust’s unified platform and post-quantum-ready hardware modules anchoring the effort, companies can implement effective management today while preparing confidently for future standards.

Enterprises interested in these services can work directly with IBM Consulting and Entrust teams to implement comprehensive cryptographic posture management and quantum-safe transitions. As quantum timelines compress, this partnership represents a step toward turning awareness into actionable, enterprise-wide security maturity.
