London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LSE:LSEG) finished higher on Thursday, 8 October 2026, advancing 1.85 percent to close at £84.70. The gain stood out against a softer session for the broader UK equity market, where the FTSE 100 Index slipped 0.16 percent to 10,441.60.
Even after the rise, the shares remained 16.47 percent below their 52-week high of £101.40, set on 23 April.
The move occurred as UBS (NYSE: UBS) reaffirmed its buy rating on the stock, while noting lingering caution around the company’s artificial intelligence plans.
Analysts Michael Werner, Haley Tam and Amit Jagadeesh kept the price target unchanged at 11,700 pence, pointing to roughly 40 percent potential upside from levels near 8,386 pence at the time of the note.
They made only modest upward adjustments to earnings-per-share forecasts for 2026 through 2028, in the range of zero to 1 percent, after modest revenue lifts were partly offset by higher costs.
UBS does not expect the forthcoming third-quarter or fourth-quarter figures to alter the prevailing narrative.
The 22 October trading update covers only revenue, and the bank sees little chance that AI-related activity will materially contribute to profit in the near term, despite earlier company guidance that client uptake of AI tools should become a steady growth driver.
The market, analysts argue, wants concrete evidence rather than further assurances, leaving LSEG as a “show-me” story.
An AI-related valuation discount is therefore likely to persist over the coming six months.
Underlying operating expectations remain constructive.
UBS anticipates 6.6 percent currency-adjusted subscription revenue growth in the third quarter, keeping the group on track for its full-year target of 6.5 percent.
Looking further ahead, the bank sees annual revenue expanding at 6 to 7 percent, with operating leverage and ongoing share buybacks supporting 14 to 15 percent earnings-per-share growth.
The valuation case is notable.
LSEG’s forward price-to-earnings multiple sits around 15 times, the lowest level in more than 12 years.
A sum-of-the-parts analysis suggests the market is currently assigning less than zero value to the Data and Analytics division.
Trading activity was relatively muted.
Volume reached 708,021 shares, well below the 50-day average of approximately 1.4 million shares.
This lighter turnover accompanied the price advance in a session that was otherwise subdued for the wider market.
London Stock Exchange Group operates across the financial markets value chain, spanning data and analytics (including FTSE Russell indices), capital markets, risk intelligence, and post-trade clearing and settlement services.
A substantial portion of revenue comes from the data and analytics businesses acquired through the Refinitiv transaction, along with majority stakes in venues such as Tradeweb and the LCH clearing house.
The group continues to emphasize long-term subscription growth, capital returns via buybacks, and the potential monetization of AI-enabled tools, even as investors await clearer revenue evidence.
Thursday’s outperformance and UBS’s maintained buy rating underscore ongoing analyst support for the shares on valuation grounds, tempered by near-term uncertainty over the pace of AI-related contributions. The combination of a multi-year low multiple and solid growth forecasts leaves the risk-reward profile under active debate ahead of the October revenue update.
