Polygon Finalizes Coinme Acquisition, Turning Open Money Stack into US Regulated Payments Platform

Polygon Labs has finalized its purchase of Coinme, transforming its Open Money Stack into a US-regulated payments platform. Announced on October 14, 2026, the closing integrates licensed money-movement capabilities directly into the company’s infrastructure for onchain value transfer.

Through the acquired US payments operation, Polygon now holds coverage in 48 states via 37 money-transmitter licenses and 11 applicable exemptions.

The business is also registered with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network as a money services business.

This step supplies the regulated entry and exit points needed to connect traditional banking, cards, and cash channels with blockchain settlement.

Open Money Stack already combines accounts and wallets for holding balances, tools for routing payments across multiple chains, and always-available settlement rails.

With Coinme’s licenses and compliance framework inside the same organization, a payments team can assemble a full flow—from dollars entering the system through banks or retail locations, to value moving onchain, to funds arriving where a recipient can spend them—through a single integration rather than coordinating separate providers for each handoff.

The acquisition advances a strategy Polygon outlined in January 2026, when it agreed to buy Coinme alongside the wallet and cross-chain infrastructure firm Sequence in transactions valued at more than $250 million combined.

Coinme, a Seattle-based firm that began with cash-to-crypto kiosks, contributes both the state licenses and an existing network of retail access points.

Polygon has previously reported cumulative stablecoin transfer volume on its chain exceeding $3 trillion, underscoring the scale of onchain activity the new regulated layer is intended to serve.

Four companies are among the first to adopt the platform.

Tazapay, which supplies cross-border collection and payout infrastructure to more than 1,000 enterprises and fintechs across more than 30 countries, is using the on- and off-ramp and wallet components to shorten the path between stablecoins and local currency.

Its customers can receive, hold, and disburse funds with fewer intermediaries while continuing to rely on local payment networks and SWIFT where needed.

Mesh is incorporating the platform’s on-ramps into its existing network of more than 300 wallets, exchanges, and financial services, giving fintechs and crypto-native businesses an additional route for users to fund digital-asset accounts from fiat sources they already hold.

Toku, a global payroll and employer-of-record provider operating in more than 100 countries, is applying the wallet and payout features to extend stablecoin treasuries into compliant local-currency payments.

Workers can hold earnings in a wallet and convert them as part of the same payroll process that already handles contracts, tax withholding, and local filings.

Kira, which uses AI agents to open US bank accounts and handle compliance reviews for fintechs, OTC desks, and import brokers, is expanding the stablecoin options available alongside ACH, Fedwire, FedNow, and SWIFT transfers.

Accounts can open within 72 hours of document receipt, and most payments clear on first review.

Polygon Labs chief executive Marc Boiron has described the deal as supplying more of the infrastructure required to support a payment from the moment funds arrive until the recipient is paid.

Early customers illustrate different slices of that continuum: cross-border business flows, account funding, global payroll, and dollar-based banking access.

Open Money Stack is available today, and Polygon is inviting additional teams building money-movement products to integrate.

By placing licensed US money transmission inside the same stack that already handles onchain routing and settlement, the company aims to make stablecoin-based payments practical inside the everyday products businesses and consumers already use.
