Southeast Asia Fintech Funding Triples to $2.3bn as Mega-Rounds Dominate

Southeast Asia’s fintech sector attracted $2.3 billion in funding in the first nine months of 2026, more than triple the amount raised a year earlier, according to a report by data intelligence firm Tracxn.

The rise in fintech funding comes as a handful of large transactions offset a sharp decline in deal volume, the report added.

Fintech companies in the region raised $2.3 billion across 42 funding rounds from January to September, up 206% from $748 million across 75 rounds in the same period last year, Tracxn said in its SEA FinTech – 9M 2026 Report.

Despite the increase, funding remained at just 43% of the $5.3 billion peak recorded in the first nine months of 2022.

Four transactions worth at least $100 million accounted for $2 billion, or 86%, of total capital raised during the period, underscoring the concentration of investment in a small number of companies.

Ant International led the funding activity with a $1.2 billion Series A round in July, backed by Alibaba and Ant Group.

The transaction alone represented 52% of regional fintech funding in the nine-month period.

Other large rounds included a $400 million Series D raised by CRYPTO in July, backed by Citadel Securities, and a $270 million Series C secured by Ajaib in August, backed by SBI Group.

Edena Capital completed the fourth mega-round, raising $100 million in a Series D in January with backing from Global Emerging Markets.

Early-stage financing, comprising Series A and B rounds, reached $1.4 billion, a 354% increase from $308.6 million a year earlier.

The category accounted for 61% of total funding, largely due to Ant International’s financing.

Late-stage funding, including Series C and subsequent rounds, private equity and pre-IPO investments, rose 137% to $806 million across seven rounds, compared with $340 million across six rounds in the same period last year.

Seed and angel funding moved in the opposite direction, falling 46% to $53.3 million across 18 rounds from $99.5 million across 46 rounds a year earlier.

Singapore remained the region’s largest fintech funding hub, attracting $1.9 billion, or 83% of total capital, up 205% from $623 million in the first nine months of 2025.

West Jakarta ranked next with $270 million, representing 12% of regional funding, entirely attributable to Ajaib’s Series C round.

Taguig raised $60 million, up 105% from $29.2 million, while Kuala Lumpur secured $35 million and Jakarta raised $10 million.

On the exits front, the sector recorded 12 acquisitions, down 14% from 14 in the same period last year, while initial public offerings fell to zero from one.

Grab’s $1.5 billion acquisition of buy now, pay later platform Atome was the largest transaction, followed by Circle’s $400 million acquisition of TazaPay and Webull’s $100 million acquisition of Pi Securities.

Grab, Circle, and Webull were the most active acquirers during the period, Tracxn said.

The average acquisition price climbed to $501 million from $22.9 million a year earlier, while the average time between a company’s first funding round and its acquisition increased to 6.3 years from 5.2 years.

Tracxn tracks more than nine million entities through over 3,000 data feeds covering industries, subsectors, geographies and business networks worldwide.
