Brief: Zopa’s Giles Andrews Named One of Digital Banking Club’s Power 50

Peer-to-peer lending platform Zopa recently announced its co-founder Giles Andrew was named one of Digital Banking Club’s Power 50. The list notably features the most innovative and influential people in European digital financial services.

Giles Andrews ZopaZopa revealed that the list was selected by members of the Digital Banking Club along with subscribers of the Retail Banker International and a panel of judges, which included business journalist/author Chris Skinner, RBS Global Mobile creator Roy Vella, and Fujitsu Digital’s director Mike Stewart. The lending portal also explained:

“Giles is the only representative from the peer-to-peer lending industry on the list, recognising his pivotal role in founding the industry and guiding its development. Others on the list include pioneers from across digital services, such as the CEO of Atom Bank, founder of the fintech start-up GoCardless, and the CEO of 11:FS – an investment fund focussing on investing in Blockchain start-ups.”

Meanwhile, Zopa’s CEO Jaidev Janardanaook to the stage of the marketplace lending conference, LendIt Europe, last week to share details about the industry’s growth and development over the past year. He noted despite the fact that this year has been unpredictable, the lender’s performance has grown and become profitable:

“At the beginning, we said these are uncertain times, let’s bring forward our plans for breakeven at the backend of 2017 to now. I’m proud to say that we were profitable in September and we’ll be profitable moving forward. That’s a big change for us in terms of proving scalability.”
