DC Charter Schools Crowdfund with Edbacker

Edbacker supports EducationThree DC charter schools have turned to Edbacker,  a funding platform for all educators, to drive additional funding for school programs, field trips, and supplies through crowdfunding platform.

The Crowdfund DC Schools initiative is focused on returning power back to educators and bringing the influence and resources of the DC community to the schools and educators in the district.  This is the first initiative out of the Edbacker Lab Series, where DC educators were invited to a workshop to learn and create crowdfunding campaigns based on the needs of their students and educators.

The schools participating include:

Washington YuYing Public Charter School- A Chinese language immersion charter, this school is looking to raise money for a 5th grade trip to China. After studying 5 years of Mandarin, these students have the opportunity to put their language skills to practice and experience the culture, a chance many may never get again.

Howard University Middle School- After a series of surveys of teachers and students, (MS)2 is in need of printer stations for their students. As a school focused on Mathematics and Science, these students need the opportunity to print their work especially with the science fair fast approaching.

Cesar Chavez Public Charter Schools- With an emphasis in public policy, Cesar Chavez educators are looking to take their students to New Orleans to learn about the city and continue efforts in rebuilding the communities affected by Hurricane Katrina.

A part of the Edbacker mission is to fully engage with local communities in support of educators’ needs,” said Gary Hensley, co-founder of Edbacker. “These campaigns are designed to showcase the great things happening right here in our own backyard and get the community involved in supporting them.”

EdbackerAs a part of this initiative, Edbacker has teamed up with several partners including Microsoft, the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education, the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning & Economic Development, and incubator platform, 1776.
