As part of their partnership for #GivingTuesday, “worlds largest crowdfunding platform” Indiegogo is offering $1 for every $20 contribution as part of an effort to amplify year end giving. #Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving at the beginning of the holiday season. The Indiegogo partnership was created in 2012 and has over 2500 partners and has indicated they boosted online giving by over 50%.
#Giving Tuesday currently has 81 listed campaigns and has raised a total amount of over $350,000. The campaigns associated with the #GivingTuesday promotion span the spectrum of categories but each and everyone have a charitable objective in mind. With so much media attention focused on Black Friday and Cyber Monday the global movement to give of yourself to help non-profits and businesses trying to aid in philanthropy has captured the interest of a growing number of people. Over 100,000 people participated in the event in 2012 and organizers expect this number only to grow. Millions of dollars were donated over the course of 24 hours last year. The #GivingTuesday movement currently has over 8,300 partners and is growing all of the time.
The criteria for starting a #GivingTuesday campaign on Indiegogo is simple:
- A campaign that addresses a pressing social issue and/or drives positive change.
- Amplify the impact of your own donation/support by spreading the word and engaging others.
