Crowdfunded on indiegogo, Piper Home Automation, Security Device Now Available for Purchase

PiperPiper home security and automation device raised over $300,000 on Indiegogo closing in September of 2013.  Described as simple, elegant and powerful the well presented hardware captured significant interest as a comprehensive Wi-Fi-enabled all-in-one home device. Piper combined panoramic video, Z-Wave home automation and environmental sensors into a single elegant product that users interact with on their smartphones or tablets via a free app.

The ship date for backers was pushed back a bit but largely the company who developed the product, Ottawa based Blacksumac, has delivered on their promises.  Now they have announced the product is widely available via their web site and is expected to ship to Europe on schedule this April.

PiperThe product was originally conceived for renters but has since been embraced by condo and apartment dwellers, homeowners, pet owners and parents alike for its simple and intuitive use and comprehensive capabilities.  The fact that it is a no fee – no contract service makes it a very accessible product as well.

“Today’s consumers are constantly connected, communicating with family and friends, making purchases and gathering the latest news and information on the go. Until now, they had little opportunity to engage with their homes in the same fashion. Piper not only makes it simple to secure and monitor the home but also to interact with it while on vacation, at the office or just down the street,” said Russell Ure, co-founder of Blacksumac, Inc.

BlackSumacBlacksumac was founded in 2012 by Russell Ure and John Criswick. Blacksumac is an Ottawa startup engaged in engineering design and technology development. The company’s product focus is remote presence-based smart home and business technology.
