URB-E E-Vehicle Shoots Out of the Gate on Indiegogo

URB-E Ready to GoURB-E  a compact, scooter like “e-vehicle” that caught quite a bit of press when they showed up at CES 2014 this year has launched their anticipated crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.  Having only launched this past Sunday the campaign has already raised over $24,000 towards their $150,000 goal.

When you watch the pitch video it is pretty obvious why this new type of transpiration has caught the eyes of so many.  It weighs “only” 27 lbs (13 kg).  Fabricated out of machined recyclable aircraft grade aluminum folded up the URB-E is only 36″ tall.  It includes a 250 watt electric hub motor with a 36 volt Lithium Ion battery.  The URB-E has claimed a top speed of 15 mph (24kmh) and holds a 3 hour charge with a range of 20 miles.

URB-E FoldedSure we live in a country that definitely needs to walk more, but the URB-E may be the perfect short commuter vehicle.  No parking hassle, just plug it in to fuel it up and when you get to the office, fold it up and it can join you on your elevator ride up.

The URB-E was founded by Grant Delgatty, Mateo Neri and Todd Bell.  This threesome added Sven Etzelberger as SVP, Engineer to help out with the design.  Sven previously worked at Porsche in Germany so he can certainly lay claim to great prior experience.  Delgatty, who is the CEO, is a long-time designer.  He has also taught at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.  The genesis of the URB-E was a company founded in 2011 called ideapiphany.  The objective of the company was to develop products for increasing consumer needs. Recognizing the challenges of growing congestion in urban environments, the Grant Delgattyfounders created a company called EgoLogical Mobility Solutions and URB-E is their very first product.

Now an URB-E is understandably not inexpensive but if you want to be one of the first to own one of these vehicles the Early Adopter Award for $1599 gives you access to one of the first 100 created.  The team hopes to have delivery by Summer 2014.
