Solar Roadways Sets Record for Number of Contributions to Single Campaign

Solar Roadways

First there were electric cars, now there are Solar Roadways. This revolutionary initiative to change the way we utilize the nation’s millions of miles of roadways, by turning them into power sources, just set the record for the highest number of individual funders during its crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.Solar Roadways

More than 35,000 backers from 42 countries have helped an innovative couple from Idaho, Scott and Julie Brusaw, surpass their campaign goal of $1,000,000 and there are still three more days to go.

Sharing the reason behind the campaign, the couple wrote, “The idea to launch a crowdfunding campaign came to us from so many supporters that we looked into it. We have always been concerned about protecting our vision to implement this in the way that we think will have the most benefit: creating American jobs rather than outsourcing and then adding manufacturing facilities in other countries.

Scott and Julie Brusaw“That way we could help the economies everywhere providing many thousands of jobs. We have a vision for the way our facilities will be – campus like – with a positive atmosphere.

“We want to use as many recycled materials as we can and keep our manufacturing process as green as possible. We could go on, but you get the picture. If we can raise enough funds here, we won’t have to take on an investor and we won’t have to worry about losing our focus. If you like our vision and want to help, we’d be honored to have you in our corner.”

The Solar Roadway campaign stated that it will:

  • Improve road safety by providing LED lighting that replaces paint and can be changed at the touch of a button.
  • Prevent accidents by providing advance illuminating warning of animals or debris on the road.
  • Provide an environmentally friendly way to melt snow without salt and sand

Notably the previous record holder for the most Indiegogo contributors was the campaign by Matthew Inman, The Oatmeal, to create a museum for the original pioneer in electricity, Nikola Tesla with 33,000 backers.

Indiegogo launched in 2009 as the world’s first crowdfunding platform, and is dedicated to allowing anyone, anywhere to fund what matters to them. As a funding machine, Indiegogo democratizes access to capital and helps innovators around the world improve society by turning their ideas into reality.
