Skylock, Velo Labs’ new connected device that aims to bring cycling into the 21st century, reached its campaign goal in less than a day. The device has seen strong sales abroad from countries like Japan, Malaysia, U.K., and Germany.
Demand was so high for the device that traffic brought down Skylock’s website and payment portal for the first 12 hours of the campaign. CEO of Velo Labs Jack Al-Kahwati noted, “We thought Skylock would make waves when it launched by all the support and positive feedback we have seen since. People are ready for Skylock to change the way they bike, and we are doing everything we can to meet consumer demand.”
To keep up with demand and also be better prepared for web traffic, Skylock is releasing a second batch of devices on Indiegogo. But what would an Indiegogo campaign be without a few perks for backers? Velo Labs will be offering a bundle deal for backers, two Skylocks for a further discounted price of $139 each.
People are starting to embrace Skylock as an Airbnb for bikes, and the viability of Skylock as a platform will rely on the number of people in the community. Selling two at a discounted rate makes this purchase more of a no-brainer for families, businesses and groups of friends who want to be able to seamlessly share bikes.
Skylock combines the skills of ex-Boeing and Jawbone engineers with the manufacturing capabilities of PCH International to create a connected device of bicycles unlike any other. Skylock uses a one of kind design and an array of sensors to keep bicycles and their rides safer, while also establishing a sharing platform that will allow users to rent out their bike when they are not riding it. Best of all, with its built in solar panel, Skylock is the first connected device you won’t have to worry about charging.
Velo Labs is the San Francisco based startup responsible for Skylock – the first device for the age of connected cycling. Built on the familiar u-lock cyclists carry with them daily, the Skylock offers the most robust mechanical lock available with cutting edge connective technology to bring cycling into the 21st century.
