MassCatalyst is an investment crowdfunding platform that operates as an auction for investors. The patent pending platform allows companies to auction both debt or equity thus differentiating their service from traditional investment portals. In a release, the sites creators stated they will debut the new site during TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco.
The new site states that “MassCatalyst’s auction system gives companies the opportunity to raise more than their initial offer (as high as investors are willing to go). It presents the possibility for more funding with less equity”.
MassCatalyst was founded by Jonathan Startz and Bobby
Katoli. They see opportunity in the forthcoming final rules of Title III – retail equity crowdfunding. They also note that multiple states have already passed laws that have legalized intrastate equity crowdfunding. MassCatalyst states; “[we] will continue to expand their free-market platform on a national and global level”.
The official launch of MassCatalyst is slated for October with the expectation of a “diverse roster of companies”.
