OakLabs Uses Gaming Tech for Molecular Bio: Raises Nearly €330K on Seedmatch

OakLabs has raised more than 218% of its equity crowdfunding goal on Seedmatch, securing over €329K with the support of over 280 investors.  The startup has a pre-money valuation of €3,469,000.

“PCR ( polymerase chain reaction) is an indispensable part of modern medical research. However, before such a routineoaklabs test works reliably, the PCR must be unique for their application… The success of a PCR depends on a variety of conditions. These are, for example, the design of the necessary primers for the specific application (short DNA portions), the concentration and amount of various reagents, as well as particular temperature and time constraints under which the reaction must be carried out. However, PCR is not the same PCR – yet it takes a lot of experience and sometimes weeks in the laboratory  until the optimum individual case conditions for PCR is found.”   OakLabs provides a solution: “We pick the PCR from the laboratory to our computers. In the future,  molecular biologists in medicine and research will provide the perfect PCR compilation within 24 hours,  thanks to OakLabs.”  This innovation is made possible by the combination of first-time simulation algorithms of quantum physics, harnessing the power of modern graphics cards game advantage. SimPCR’s developed the revolutionary technology that OakLabs uses.

pcrkitThe PCR market: With an average growth rate of 13.9% over the past five years, reaching the global PCR market reached a value of EUR 22.1 billion in 2015. Reagents and Consumables have growth rates of 14.6% and 14.2% to the highest growth. OakLabs’ competitors include Qiagen: RT2 qPCR Primer Assay, Biorad: PrimePCR primer, GeneCopeia: All-in-One qPCR Mix and OriGene: QStar qPCR primer pairs.

“The SimPCR kit is not just a small innovation,  PCR-users save some time and money: it is a real and lasting revolution in the global market worth billions for PCR. Previous simulation studies were too expensive highly error-prone for the mass market or for incorrect algorithms due to the required computing power,” according to OakLabs.  Below include  additional advantages of its PCRDRIVE:

  • Bundled workflow: from PCR-planning on the appointment of PCR reagents, to documentationDr. Martina Schad
  • Network effect: parts of established PCRs with others (within the team.)
  • Documentation: all reaction conditions for successful PCR detected
  • Comparison matrix: the reagents offer wide choice of providers is included and allows easy comparison of prices and services, as well as the direct order
  • Advertising & Information: manufacturer can reach its target audiences almost without ad wastage

Co-Founded by biochemist Dr. Martina Schad and physicist Dr. Jim Kallarackal in 2011, the OakLabs team of seven with plans to 14 by 2019. High-Tech Start-Up Fund is a OakLabs partner as is DESY.  OakLabs’ Seedmatch campaign closes in 47 days.
