Children’s charity Kids Company is facing unprecedented numbers of vulnerable children and young people seeking their support this Christmas. To help them meet this challenge they have turned to alternative online fundraising platform Crowdfunder. They were surprised and moved by the kindness of the public when over a thousand people responded to the plight of their children by pledging over £30,000 in just one day to their “Give the gift of Christmas” Crowdfunder appeal.
On Christmas Day, Kids Company will host a huge community Christmas party, providing much needed hot meals, presents and games for over 4,000 disadvantaged children and their families. The charity also supports a further 12,000 children and their families throughout London with emergency food parcels and in just two years, has seen a 200% increase in the number of vulnerable children and families needing their support over Christmas.
This is the first time that Kids Company has partnered with the innovative fundraising platform Crowdfunder and aims to raise £100,000 for their Christmas support. Kids Company has diversified their fundraising efforts and in doing so has expanded the expectations of the crowdfunding model for charities. Kids Company’s “Give the gift of Christmas” Crowdfunder campaign is a pioneering move for the children’s charity that will change the landscape of charity fundraising in the UK.
The field of alternative finance is expected to reach £1.74 billion in 2014 in the UK alone with £26 million from rewards crowdfunded, with the average amount raised per project standing at £3,7661
