Creative England Forms Partnership With Crowdfunder UK To support England’s Top Filmmakers

New filmmakers from across England will launch crowdfunding projects as a part of Creative England’s annual short film initiative: iShorts.

Creative EnglandFollowing hundreds of applications from aspiring filmmakers, 19 producer / director teams have been chosen to receive a share of just under £100k from Creative England. Each team will also launch a campaign on Crowdfunder UK, giving them a unique opportunity to raise additional finance from the crowd, and make the film of their dreams.

The campaign with Crowdfunder UK is the latest innovation from Creative England, offering alternative finance to the creative industries. It follows the success of Queen of Code, which raised £40,000 for some of the country’s newest and most exciting female game developers.

CrowdfunderThe crowdfunding campaign has been created not only to increase the finance available for production, but to drive early awareness and audience engagement in advance of the films’ release. It also aims to promote some of the country’s brightest and best film talent. Chosen filmmakers hail from across the regions, from Devon to Newcastle. And their stories range from a mountain-recuse drama to reincarnation, an outspoken comedian to a serially depressed serial killer.

The chosen filmmakers will also receive editorial support, industry mentoring and networking opportunities via Creative England’s Talent Center, as well as access to a bespoke training programme funded by Creative Skillset.

Caroline Norbury, CEO of Creative England said,

Caroline Norbury“This country is full of incredibly talented writers, directors and producers, but finding film finance continues to be a struggle. The industry is often seen as a ‘risky’ proposition.

“By teaming up with Crowdfunder, we can give our most exciting new talent the best chance of making an outstanding film, by tapping into alternative finance. The chosen scripts are all brilliant, so I know the public will get behind them.”

Phil Geraghty, MD of Crowdfunder, added:

Phil Geraghty“Creative England is once again leading the charge in alternative funding, distributing funds on Crowdfunder to amplify talent, providing a platform from which to launch innovative ideas with the support of the crowd.

“We are really excited to be providing a home for new and exciting film talent, putting skills, ambitions and talent under the spotlight here in England.”

iShorts is a short film initiative delivered as part of the BFI NET.WORK.
