Indiegogo Alum Bluesmart Carry-On Luggage Debuts on MoMA Design Store Shelves

Bluesmart

On Monday, Indiegogo alum and connected smart luggage startup, Bluesmart, announced its first retail partnership with the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) Design Store.

Bluesmart’s suitcase is now on sale online at  for $399 and a limited supply will be on store shelves, in both the SoHo and midtown MoMA stores in Manhattan, beginning November 20th. This marks the first in-store availability for Bluesmart in physical retail.

Alejo Verlini, Co-founder and Head of Design at Bluesmart, commented:

Bluesmart 3“We’re extremely honored that MoMA Design Store, the ultimate authority in design curation, has deemed our Bluesmart luggage worthy of sharing space with some of the most creatively designed products from around the world. We believe that the unique ability to combine advanced technology with great design enables the reinvention of everyday products, delighting people in surprising ways. It’s extremely rewarding to see MoMA endorse our product vision.”

Bluesmart was created by a group of seasoned entrepreneurs, designers and engineers who encountered several problems with their luggage while traveling internationally and decided to partner to develop the world’s first smart luggage. The result of this collaboration is a first-of-its-kind, lightweight, durable, water- and scratch-resistant suitcase that is as intelligent, fashionable and functional.

Chay Costello, Associate Director of Merchandising at the MoMA Design Store, explained:

Bluesmart 2“When we saw how many people supported Bluesmart luggage through crowdfunding, we knew we had to check it out. As people are increasingly multi-tasking, they look for objects in their lives to be multi-taskers as well. Our buying team travels frequently so we know firsthand how many details need to be juggled as we go from airport to hotel to meetings and beyond. Travel involves lots of moving parts, and a suitcase that helps streamline the process solves a problem and makes life better.”

Bluesmart’s carry-on  fits all US airline size constraints, meets Transportation Security Administration (TSA) criteria, and does it all with beautiful design and attention to detail. The suitcase lets travelers:

  • Bluesmart 1Track: GPS+3G real-time tracking worldwide in partnership with Telefonica
  • Lock: Remote digital lock accepted by the TSA
  • Charge: 2 USB chargers with 10,000 mAh capacity — enough to charge an iPhone six times
  • Weigh: Built-in weight sensors inform via app whether suitcase is within airline limits
  • Connect: Bluesmart app delivers proximity alerts and travel itinerary and reports

Costello added:

“The Bluesmart suitcase has modern, minimal lines and can be tracked via an app so you always know where your suitcase is. The app enables the suitcase to weigh itself, and you can also lock it remotely. My favorite feature is that the Bluesmart has an embedded battery so you can use it to charge your phone while you’re in transit.”
