With less than 24 hours until its highly successful Indiegogo campaign comes to an end, upcoming film Code 8 has successfully secured nearly $1.7 million thanks to over 19,000 backers.
The film, which was introduced to the global crowdfunding portal by Arrow stars Robbie and Stephen Amell, takes place in a world where 4% of the population are born with some type of supernatural ability. Its description reads:
“Instead of being billionaire superheroes, most ‘specials’ live in poverty and resort to crime, forcing the police to become more militarized. The story follows a young man with special powers (Robbie Amell) struggling to find work as a day laborer. After a dispute over payment, he finds himself in a confrontation with a police officer (Sung Kang) and the autonomous robots backing him up.”
Code 8 will be shot in Los Angeles and will also star Aaron Abrams (Hannibal, Blindspot, Chad Donella (Scandal), and Alfred Rubin Thompson (Club Dead). Unfortunately due to scheduling issues, Stephen will not be in the film, but will act as an executive producer.
“Guys. You are all amazing. We set out to make $200k and our wildest expectation was that we might surpass that goal and make a kick ass movie. Well, we have surpassed it. By a lot. In fact, if we launched this morning we would have passed it! We literally don’t have the words to even begin to thank you all enough!”
Those that back the project will receive some awesome rewards, which includes signed posters, apparel, tickets to various premieres (Toronto, Los Angeles, and Vancouver), and backers can even pay to be an extra in the film.
The campaign is set to close later today.
