A new British hospitality group Flat Cap Hotels which was founded in 2015 by brothers Oliver Heywood, a former Business Development Manager of London’s iconic The May Fair Hotel, and Dominic Heywood, is planning to open a second property in Knutsford, Cheshire with the help of its crowdfunding campaign on Seedrs.
The family run group has purchased the former Crown Court in Knutsford and has submitted a planning application for change of use of the property that has been closed since 2010 as well as investing considerable sums in the refurbishment process, according to a release. Flat Cap Hotels plans to convert the property into a unique conference and banqueting venue. The site is slated to boast a 150 cover restaurant, champagne and cocktail bar with luxury hotel accommodation coming in the second phase of development.
In the campaign, the duo explained that the Flat Cap Hotel Court House concept originated from the growing economic and industry development in the food and beverage market between the old-fashioned country public house and restaurant, combined with the ever-growing boutique luxury hotel market with unique conference and banqueting facilities.
“We feel we have in-depth experience in restoring and maintaining assets with historical features and listed structures whilst creating successful operational businesses. The upkeep and maintenance of each property is incorporated into our business plan and the required capital expenditure strategy,” the Heywood brothers noted on their Seedrs’ campaign. “Our two establishments (The Courthouse opening soon) serve locally sourced British seasonal menus in property with bespoke décor and furnishings created by us with a ‘home away from home’ atmosphere.”
The initial focus for the 2016 launch will be development aiming to be of one of the North West’s most prestigious venues for conferences, weddings, private dining, meetings, exhibitions and events with a capacity up to 550 guests. To date, the crowdfunding project has raised over £20,150 of its £250,000 goal for the 8% equity offered; funders are able to donate as little as £50 to the full amount of the property, £250,000. In addition to equity, Flat Cap is offering rewards, including wine, an evening’s stay, private parties, full catering for up to 300 guests in the Court Room and membership in the Flat Cap Club. According to the campaign video, if Flat Cap doesn’t reach its goal, investors will be refunded.
